Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay are already in as 2030 opening hosts, but CONMEBOL is leaning toward keeping a 10-team round robin. The other seven — including Ecuador — would fight for three automatic berths and a play-off.

La Tri are closing the 2026 cycle (Beccacece and Enner Valencia) and hunting a coach. Francisco Egas confirmed the consensus for the traditional format; the official calendar is not out. Possible windows: June or September 2027.

The format
- FEF president and CONMEBOL vice-president Francisco Egas said in July 2026 that the round-robin format stays.
- Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Chile, Peru, Bolivia and Venezuela would compete for three automatic places and an intercontinental play-off.
